Tell me about your past experience

I’ve been involved in postsecondary education for about 40 years. Right after I graduated from college, I worked as an admissions counselor in the University of Wisconsin system and later as dean of admissions and records for Sheridan College in Wyoming. From there my career took me into the for-profit postsecondary sector, where I was president of several schools throughout the West, including Wyoming Technical Institute (now WyoTech), Sequoia Institute, and the Art Institute of Seattle. I’m on the board of the International Education Corporation and am a past board member for the Career College Association. I served two terms as a commissioner for the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology. My whole career has been centered on helping students achieve their goals. My philosophy is that the student and their future employer are our customers. My background in both public and private postsecondary education gives me a unique perspective on what works and doesn't work, which priorities make sense financially, and what the competitive advantages are for both sectors.

What’s unique about Rally Cap?

We offer 100 percent customized products and services. We’re also pioneering about being interactive in the market. We’re not truly consultants because we don’t just consult—we interact with our clients and their teams. We work side by side with them, often for weeks or months, to get the job done. We’re also very knowledgeable about postsecondary regulatory compliance. We know the regs extremely well, and when we work with client schools, we’re always very careful to operate ethically and legally.

What do you like about your job?

The education business is very unique, because the schools’ customers (students) and their products (graduates) are all people. Together with our client schools, Rally Cap is involved with positively changing the lives of people. For me, it doesn’t get any better than that.
